David J. Coleman, 38, was sentenced Tuesday in Omaha for inflicting the shocking abuse on the little girl, the Omaha World-Herald reports.
He was initially charged with attempted murder but accepted a plea deal for two counts of child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
“There was extreme violence here,” Douglas County District Judge Duane Dougherty said in sentencing him. “When someone harms a child that age — or no matter the age — in that nature, it’s as bad as it gets.”
The horror ordeal unfolded on Dec. 14 last year when Coleman filmed himself wrapping a pink scarf around the little girl’s neck on two separate occasions.
