WE ARE RAISING ALL-ROUND FARMERS SAYS IFAD/LIFE-ND, AS INCUBATEES TOUR ESTABLISHED FARMS TO ACQUIRE MORE PRACTICAL LESSONS IN FARMING.
The IFAD/LIFE ND, Ondo Project Office has stated resolve to make its incubattes all-round farmers, capable of venturing into any agric activity.
The IFAD/LIFE-ND, Ondo State Project Coordinator, Mr. Olawale Ademola stated this mission after the incubattees had visited a crop/vegetable and Integrated farms in Idanre, in Ifedore and Ogbese in Owo local government areas of the State.
Mr. Olawale, who was represented by Mr. Agbotoba Gbenga, the State IFAD/LIFE-ND Knowledge Management and Communication Resource Person, explained that the development was to expand knowledge base of the incubattees.
"The training tour has allowed incubatees to gain more knowledge about vegetable and integrated farming in order to supplement their income in their respective enterprises of choice. We have 25 incubatees drawn from seven local government areas of the state. We brought them here for knowledge sharing.
"They've shared their knowledge with the farm managers. And the farm managers have been able to profer solution to some of the challenges the incubattees are facing or may encounter later in their respective farming business. They have also learnt lots of skills and expertise from the resource persons."
At Our Farms and Gardens in Idanre, the Administrative Officer and trainer, Akinkugbe Damilola took the incubattees through the best type of soil to use for planting, where and when to plant vegetables.
The incubatees saw other methods of controlling weeds without using chemicals.
They also garnered practical knowledge of local and modern methods of raising vegetables and as well as usage of Green Houses for raising vegetables.
At the Mitelo Integrated Farms, Ogbese, in Owo Local Government Area, the incubattes were conducted round the farm by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr. (Mrs) Funmilola Willians Daodu.
The incubatees visited the animal husbandry section of the farm where they saw how snails, goats, geese and turkey etc were being raised.
The Farm Manager explained that farming like other means of making money required patience, resillience and dedication.
Some of the incubatees described the tour as beneficial and eye-opening.
