ONDO GOVT. ASSURES RESIDENTS OF EARLY COMPLETION OF AULE ROAD REHABILITATION

People of Ondo State, particularly residents of Awule in Akure South Local Government Area of the state, have been assured that all roads in deplorable condition awarded under asphalt laying and rehabilitation township would be completed soon.

The Special Adviser on Lands, Housing and Infrastructure, Pastor Ayoade Babalola gave the assurance while  speaking on the ongoing asphalt laying and rehabilitation of Awule Road in Akure. Pastor Babalola said the Awule Road would be completed in a couple of days. He stated that with the pace and level of work on the road, it would be handed over to the state government soon.

Pastor Babalola said: "Let me appreciate our governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his prompt action on that road. The road is among the roads under group A of the township roads rehabilitation in Akure. "The people of Awule had been calling us complaining on the condition of the road. The work has reached appreciable level and will be completed in the next two weeks. "We are appealing to the residents of the area to be patient with us. The contractor is working very hard to ensure the rehabilitation is completed without delay. In the next 10 days, the construction work will be completed. "It was the sudden rise in prices of construction materials that made the construction drag this far. The challenge was really overwhelming. The chairman of the landlords association in the area and three other community leaders called me to appreciate what we are doing there."

In his reaction, Engr. F.M Oluwatayo, Director, Civil Engineering, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, explained the rehabilitation of road under asphalt laying and rehabilitation of township roads in Akure is moving fast due to the dry season and commitment of the contractor. Speaking at the construction site, he said: "The contractor has repaired the hydraulic structures, sub-base cause. This road has actually failed and was in deplorable condition. The contractor has been on the site during the rainy season. What he's doing now is putting the base cause in form of stone base, the material that's used for base cause. "After this, he will compact it before putting the asphalt. It won't take long to complete it, the only time we have now is the compacting period to attain the compaction strength that's required."

"The contractor handling the road is very committed, immediately we got approval from Mr. Governor and we told him, he immediately moved to the site and contacted his suppliers. "The people are happy because they could see the level and the pace of the work being done on the road. The road is less than a kilometer. "All other roads that fall under the group A would be attended to, our people should just be patient with us. This is apart from the 60km roads contract awards we did, 20km from each of the three senatorial districts in the state cutting across the 18 local government areas."

This has nothing to do with education, wealthy, position, religion etc. It is the lot of all of us.    Every peregrination of man commences sometime and somewhere. When the then young, bubbling and energetic Rotimi Adeyemi joined the public service in those days and came round, people used to call him wolewole. It was a derogatory word used to describe sanitary inspectors. They were popular on account of their notoriety for making life difficult for landlords and occupants of unhygienic  surroundings.
