 Ondo Government Applauds International Recognition for Budget Engagement

The Ondo State Government has expressed delight at receiving international recognition and an award from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Polladium.

ln a letter of commendation, USAID and Palladium acknowledged the Ondo State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget as "one of the best states on citizen engagement in budget preparation." The letter further highlighted the award as part of the Strengthening Civil Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) initiative.



The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Dr. Emmanuel Igbasan, described the award as heartwarming and a testament to the government’s purposeful and deliberate pursuit of best practices in governance.

“We are delighted to receive this unexpected but well-deserved award. When we initiated the engagement of stakeholders and select groups in the budget preparation process, it marked a paradigm shift from past methods. Our goal was to ensure the people had ownership of the budget, which is ultimately designed to address their needs and expectations,” Dr. Igbasan stated.

The Commissioner further emphasized the government’s commitment to adopting global standards in governance.

“This award challenges us to remain focused on making the people the centerpiece of our programs. Nigeria will reach its full potential when governance is conducted in line with best practices. For us in Ondo State, this recognition will motivate us to consistently implement programs that meet international standards, thereby positioning the state to achieve its rightful place both nationally and globally,” he added.
