IFAD/LIFE-ND ONDO OFFICE GRADUATES OVER 5000 INCUBATEES, TO ENGAGE 6,000 MORE THIS YEAR.
Over 5,000 incubatees engaged by the IFAD/LIFE-ND, Ondo Project have been presented with certificates of participation by the Office.
At a short ceremony held at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Akure, representatives of the incubatees drawn from the 10 local government areas where the project is taking place were advised to use the knowledge they have acquired to benefit their communities.
The National Project Coordinator, who spoke through the State Project Coordinator, Prince Olawale Ademola, said the IFAD/LIFE-ND Project was aimed at alleviating poverty in the Niger Delta states, focusing on women and youths.
"You are our ambassadors. Go and use the seeds we have given you wisely. Develop what you have learned, become employers of labor, and engage other youths. I am looking for 20 champions in each local government area. I am talking about 20 people I can show the world as successful products of the project. The first phase is ending this month, and the second phase starts immediately. We have the marching order from the IFAD/LIFE-ND headquarters to bring in a new set of 6,000 incubatees. I want to thank His Excellency, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for paying the state counterpart funding in good time."
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Empowerment and Job Creation, Mr. Orioye Gbayisemore, commended IFAD/LIFE-ND for helping to take youths out of the labor market.
He assured that the government of Governor Aiyedatiwa is committed to improving the fortunes of the youth.
"In the last three weeks, he has rolled out the appointment of 1,000 primary school teachers, effected the payment of the state counterpart funding for 6,000 incubatees, and approved a new youth policy for the state."
He charged them to take their farming activities seriously.
"If we cannot do commercial farming, let us engage in subsistence farming. We will do well for ourselves and the state thereby."
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Foluke Daramola, also implored the incubatees to go out and show the world that agriculture is the best sector to venture into.
Represented by the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Ehinmowo, she challenged them to practice other farming activities with the knowledge imparted by IFAD/LIFE-ND.
All the incubatees were later presented with their certificates.
