Irate mob alleges Sokoto commissioner works with bandits, sets country home ablaze

Angry youths have set ablaze the country home of Sokoto State Commissioner of Security and Career Studies, Col. Garba Moyi (rtd), in Isa Local Government Area, the hometown of the commissioner.

The irate youths burned down Colonel Moyi’s house, accusing him of complicity with bandits who attack the area.

Report also indicated that the youths burned the vehicle belonging to the traditional ruler of Isa, Sarkin Gobir Alhaji Nasiru Ahmad, also accusing him of connivance.

Trouble started when youths in the village invited the commissioner to discuss incessant banditry in the area, being part of the the epicentre of banditry in the state, but the commissioner did not honor the invitation.

When contacted, Moyi confirmed the arson on his residence, noting, however, that political opponents were behind the razing of his house in Isa.

“I am yet to visit the area to ascertain the extent of damage to the house; but I can confirm that no life was lost. For now, I cannot say anything further, as investigation is ongoing by the Police.”

Sokoto State Command PPRO, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Sanusi Abubakar, who also confirmed the incident, said that investigation was ongoing to unravel the causes of the incident.

ASP Abubakar, who disclosed that five persons were already in Police net, assured that Police would get to the root of the matter and urged the citizens to remain calm.
