Hanan Buhari Thanks Nigerians for Forgiving Her Late Father, Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari
Hanan Buhari, daughter of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed gratitude to Nigerians who forgave her father during and after his time in office.
The former Nigerian leader passed away on July 13 at the age of 82 in a London clinic after a prolonged battle with an undisclosed illness. Family sources said he had recently been discharged from intensive care before his condition worsened. He was buried on Tuesday at his residence in Daura, Katsina State.
His death stirred a wave of reactions across the country, ranging from heartfelt tributes to strong criticisms, especially on social media.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Hanan reflected on her father’s legacy and the personal impact of his passing. She said the thing she would miss most about him was his sense of humour.
“What I will miss most about him is his sense of humour. I look up to him as a part of me. I want to thank everyone who forgave my late father,” she said.
“On behalf of our family, we are grateful. We have nothing to say to them except thank God. He disciplined me to study, pray, and do things that made us happy.”
Hanan also shared that she felt privileged to have spent time with her father during his final days, including reading the Qur’an to him.
“I will miss everything about him — his jokes, how he made us laugh. But we know Allah did it, and it has become part of us,” she added
