Stakeholders Move to Resolve Supare-Akoko Chieftaincy Crisis, Affirm Supare Day Celebration
A high-level peace meeting has been held in Akure to address the lingering crisis following the installation of a new Olusupare of Supare-Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The meeting, convened in response to post-installation disputes surrounding the traditional leadership, brought together 32 key stakeholders from the Supare-Akoko community. It was presided over by the Ondo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi.
Among those in attendance were representatives of the Oba-in-Council, the Supare Development Association (SDA) National Council, the Town Council, the Supare Youth Council, the four ruling houses, as well as elders and community leaders.
At the end of deliberations, a joint communiqué was issued outlining key resolutions aimed at restoring peace and ensuring community progress.
Key decisions reached include:
The formation of an 11-member delegation, including representatives from the four ruling houses, to meet with Alhaji Ali Olanusi and Prince Solomon Animasahun. The purpose is to gain their support in ending ongoing legal disputes surrounding the chieftaincy matter.
A second group, composed of leaders from the four ruling houses, will formally notify the Regent, Princess Adebukola Adedeji Adedayo, to recognise the new Olusupare of Supare-Akoko.
The Supare Development Association National Council has been mandated to write an official letter to the Regent, advocating for the new monarch’s recognition. The letter will be circulated to all chiefs and development organs for compliance.
The Supare-Day celebration will proceed as scheduled. Stakeholders agreed that adequate security arrangements must be made by liaising with relevant security agencies across the state.
The meeting ended with all stakeholders jointly signing the communique, which has been released for broad circulation to ensure timely implementation of the resolutions.
The development is seen as a significant step toward stabilising the community and fostering unity ahead of the highly anticipated Supare-Day event
