WAEC Debunks Rumours of 2025 WASSCE Cancellation, Confirms Results Release Date.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has denied claims circulating on social media that the recently concluded 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled.

A viral press statement dated Saturday, July 19, 2025, alleged that WAEC, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, had nullified the entire examination due to widespread examination malpractice, question paper leaks, and unauthorized digital sharing of exam materials.

Reacting to the development, WAEC’s management, in a statement issued on Sunday, July 20, 2025, firmly dismissed the claims, describing them as “spurious” and the handiwork of “mischief-makers.”

“The Council would like to state unequivocally that the false press statement being circulated did not emanate from WAEC,” the statement read. “The examination has not been cancelled. We believe this misinformation is being spread by individuals seeking to discredit the Council and cause panic among candidates.”

WAEC further disclosed that the marking of scripts has been concluded and that the results will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.

The Council urged the public and stakeholders to rely only on official and verified WAEC platforms for authentic information. It added that all official press releases are issued and signed by the Public Affairs Department on behalf of the Head of National Office.

The statement was signed by Moyosola Adesina, anipr, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC Nigeria.
