POLICE INSPECTOR ROBBED AND ASSAULTED OVER GIRLFRIEND

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that over 20 youths in the Nkpolu area assaulted and robbed a police inspector attached to the Woji Division.

Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the incident occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2025.

According to the statement, Inspector Joshua Nyian was on his way home from work when he stopped at Nkpolu to visit his pregnant girlfriend. He was allegedly attacked by the Nkpolu youth president, the community chairman, and about 20 others.

“They beat him up, dragged him to the main road, seized his police identity card and phone, recorded him on video, and forcefully collected the sum of seventy-eight thousand naira (N78,000) from him,” Iringe-Koko stated.

The inspector further alleged that the youth president had previously made advances toward his girlfriend, which may have triggered the assault.

The police command has launched an investigation into the incident, urging the youth president and others involved to report themselves for questioning.
