Riders Win Big as ODIRS Distributes Over 600 Bags of Rice, Groundnut Oil…

2 lucky winners go home with brand new Okada

No fewer than 600 bags of 50 kg and 25 kg rice was today distributed to Okada and Tricycle Riders during a program put together by the Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility to mark the yuletide season.

The Executive Chairman, ODIRS, Dr. Tolu Adegbie said the state generated N1billion last year and has generated about N900million in the outgoing year. He commended the riders for their cooperation saying the gesture for the day is a direct intervention from the state government to bring succour to them.

According to him, this year’s event is bigger as Okada and Tricycle Riders are not lumped together so as to give room for fairness.

While also using the opportunity to commend the riders for their commitment to payment of their personal tax, Dr. Adegbie acknowledged that without their support and cooperation, nothing much would have been achieved.

He further affirmed that two Okada will be won in Akure and Ondo; the two areas with the highest income generation across the state.

The Acting Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa who was represented by Hon. Tobi Ogunleye at the event, thanked ODIRS for doing a yeoman’s job noting that their contributions to the development of the state is of great value.

In his charge to the riders, he admonished them to remain dutiful and law abiding as more is expected from them in the coming year.

Recounting the success that has trailed the initiative over the last few years, the SSA to Mr. Governor on Special Duties, Dr Doyin Odebowale said the state government was able to raise the bar from a monthly N400,000 revenue across the state to millions of naira.

He noted further that the state government has changed the narratives of riders in the state and brought to minimal level vices such as banditry and thuggery which used to be associated with the okada riders.

He commended ODIRS for the steady progression in revenue generation in the state just as he tasked other sectors to live up to expectation by blocking leakages and liberalizing participation.

In a separate remark, DCP Ogbeghan on behalf of the AIG assured that the force will continue to give support to the government in achieving its goals in the state.

The climax of the event was the presentation of the star prize of a brand new Okada to two winners in Okada and Tricycle categories as well as presentation of bags of rice, groundnut oil amongst other gifts to winners of the raffle draw.

Earlier in his remarks, the SSA to Ondo State Governor on Revenue, Mr Femi Feyide thanked the okada riders for their cooperation saying their contributions no doubt contributed immensely to the development of the state.
