ONDO STATE EARNS NATIONAL PRAISE FOR STRATEGIC ECONOMIC GROWTH AND JOB CREATION INITIATIVES

Ondo State Earns National Praise for Strategic Economic Growth and Job Creation Initiatives

By Sunday Ajibola

Ondo State has received commendation from the National Economic Council (NEC) monitoring team for its strategic initiatives in driving economic growth and job creation through robust partnerships with the private sector.

Leading the three-member inspection delegation to the South-West region, Professor Musibau Adedeji applauded the state's forward-thinking approach to attracting investment and enhancing value addition across critical sectors of the economy.

"Ondo State is making significant strides in creating a conducive environment for investors to thrive," said Professor Adedeji. "This has resulted in increased employment opportunities and a broader economic base."

Highlighting the collaborative efforts between the government and private enterprises, Professor Adedeji noted, "The state is working closely with the private sector to create jobs, drive value addition, and foster a multiplier effect across the economy. These efforts span employment generation, economic expansion, and enhanced foreign exchange earnings."

The inspection is part of a nationwide initiative by the NEC to monitor the implementation of council resolutions at sub-national levels. The exercise is aimed at assessing the impact of development programmes, identifying existing challenges, and proposing federal interventions where necessary.

"We are here to evaluate the real-world impact of the policies in place and understand the challenges hindering progress," Professor Adedeji added. "The objective is to enable the Federal Government to address those issues and unlock opportunities for further growth."

The NEC team had previously visited Ogun, Osun, Lagos, Oyo, and Ekiti States. Professor Adedeji emphasized that the overarching goal is to foster regional collaboration rather than competition among states.

"We are encouraging each state to learn from one another by observing best practices. This includes cooperation in the supply of raw materials, intermediate inputs, and the enhancement of final outputs," he said.

The delegation underscored the importance of inter-state collaboration in reinforcing the region’s industrial base and promoting inclusive economic development.

During their visit to Ondo State, the team toured several key enterprises and projects, including Solwood/Rex Forestry in Onipetesi; JB Farms in Ore; Arctic Lolat Farms in Owena; the Onyearugbulem Flyover in Akure; FUTA Tech Hub in Akure; the Ministry of Agriculture’s Onion Demonstration Farms; and infrastructure support for egg production in Bolorunduro.

The monitoring team was guided on the tour by representatives from the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Ondo State Development and Investment Promotion Agency (ONDIPA).
