Court Clears Former Governor Fayose of Efcc's Money Laundering Charges
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed all charges filed against former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, in a long-running money laundering case instituted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
In its ruling delivered today, the court upheld Fayose’s no-case submission, effectively acquitting him of all allegations of fraud and money laundering leveled against him by the anti-graft agency.
The judge held that the EFCC failed to establish a prima facie case to justify putting the former governor on further defence, thereby rendering the prosecution’s case unsustainable.
Fayose had been arraigned by the EFCC on multiple counts of alleged financial misconduct said to have occurred during his tenure as governor.
However, the court ruled that the evidence provided was insufficient and lacking in merit, leading to the full acquittal of the former governor.
