Dele Momodu Dumps PDP, Joins ADC Citing ‘Hijack by Antidemocratic Forces’
Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation International, Chief Dele Momodu, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing the party of being hijacked by undemocratic forces.
In a resignation letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Ihievbe, Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State, Momodu said his decision to quit the party takes immediate effect.
“My reason is simple and straightforward,” the letter reads. “Our party has been unarguably hijacked by antidemocratic forces, from within and outside, in broad daylight. It is therefore honorable to abandon the carcass of the party to them while the majority of us earnestly sign up with the new coalition party known as the African Democratic Congress (ADC).”
Momodu, a former PDP presidential aspirant, expressed appreciation to the ward leadership for their loyalty and support since he joined the party in 2021. He had been an active participant in national debates and party activities since then.
His defection to the ADC is seen as a significant development in Edo State’s political landscape and is expected to boost the emerging coalition's influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Momodu's resignation adds to the growing list of high-profile exits from the PDP, as discontent deepens over the party’s internal leadership crisis and direction.
