ONDO GOVT. WILLING TO WORK WITH DONOR AGENCIES- AKINTERINWA


ODSG EXPRESSES WILLINGNESS TO COLLABORATE MORE WITH DONOR AGENCIES. 

Ondo State Government would continue to collaborate with donor agencies and other international partners to access more grants with a view to providing more infrastructural development to the people of the State. 

This would not only help the State to diversify its economy, but would also attract more foreign investors, provide more job opportunities for the teeming youths as well as have  multiplier effect on  the people of the State.



  Head Media Ministry of Finance, Mr. Banjo Egunjobi in a Press Release said the State Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Akinterinwa stated this during a meeting with a delegation from the Federal Ministry of Finance, Abuja on FY 2021 Borrower's Monitoring and Evaluation of all Donor Assisted Projects in Ondo State.

Mr Akinterinwa explained that with the REDEEMED Agenda of the Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu  administration, the state would continue to witness more infrastructural development in key factors of the economy such as road construction and rehabilitation, health, education, tourism, agricultural and other sectors of the economy. 

While appealing to the visiting team not to hesitate to let the state know the areas of its short comming in the projects implementation in order to improve on it, assured that everything possible would be done on the part of the State goverment to see that all the projects were properly executed. 

"We want to ensure that they succeed, we are ready to do everything possible, we are willing to  listen to your counsel, advice and collaboration to ensure that these projects are delivered within the stipulated time" he said. 

Mr Akinterinwa, who appreciated the donor agencies and other development partners, appealed to the visitors to help the state convey some of the challenges to them so that they will understand why some of the projects were delayed. 

He however, appealed to all the coordinators of all the benefiting agencies in the State to cooperate with the team so that the objective of their visit would be achieved. 

In his remarks, the leader of the team Mrs Okpanachi Lucy highlighted some of the purpose of the monitoring exercis to include ensuring that the development objectives of the Donor Assisted Projects are being achieved, to carry out a review of the implementation process of the components under the projects. 

Others reasons are, to follow-up on all outstanding issues and next step at the end of the last implementation support Mission or Mid-term Review, identify bottlenecks / challenges hindering the smooth implementation of the projects and provide support / solution to the Projects Implementation Unit PIU on the effective coordination of  projects implementation. 

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Tokunbo Aiyejoto, explained that the program was at the instance of the Federal Ministry of Finance that guaranteed Ondo State access to all the projects from external development Partners and Donors. 

Some of the Government Agencies in the State that made presentations include Water Corporation, Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project ( NEWMAP), Youth Employment and Social Support Operation, State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Programmes for Result (SFTAS) and IFAD/ FGN/LIFE-ND. 

During their presentation, they identified effects of COVID-19 pandemic, astronomical increase in goods and services, delay on the part of donor Agencies and Development Partners to approve fund and more are some of the major challenges facing projects execution and implementation.
