FG shares N56.8bn to states for teachers’ training
The Universal Basic Education Commission has disbursed N56, 821,751,416.12 to the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory for teachers’ professional development, The PUNCH has learnt.
The figure was contained in a UBEC document obtained by our correspondent in Abuja on Tuesday. No fewer than 9,392 teachers were sacked by Kaduna, Anambra, Plateau, Abia and Niger state governments in two years.
The state governments had defended the sacking, claiming that the sacked teachers lacked necessary qualifications.
According to the UBEC document, the 36 states and the FCT received N228, 628,497.42 each between 2009 and 2010; while they received N290m each for the 2011-2012 session. For 2013-2014 N331m was received by each of the 36 states and FCT; for the 2015-2016 academic session they got N290m each; while for 2017/2018, N404m each was received.
While the commission is yet to make available the latest disbursement for the 2019/2020, it noted that the document was its latest release as of 2022.
